Before this beautiful career of mine, I was an executive in NYC for 15 years in the fashion industry.
I was "skinny fat", traveled a lot for work and felt really unhealthy.
When I decided to take charge of my health, I joined my first gym at 33 years old. I hired a trainer immediately, knowing I had no idea how to navigate my way through a gym.
Well, I fell in love with fitness right away.
After 6 months, I was educated more on nutrition and how to use food to create lean muscle and I was hooked on the "fit life".
I even exited my corporate career to pursue my education in fitness while becoming a personal trainer.
Now my days and nights were spent in a gym and I felt reborn with this newfound life.
This lead me to wanting to compete in a bodybuilding competition.
Fast forward 4 years and 7 competitions later, I earned the title of Professional Figure and Women's Physique bodybuilder with the International Federation of Bodybuilding.
Here's where the story gets juicy...
Along this journey, although my physique was healthy, I started to experience physical symptoms that I couldn't resolve on my own or with the help of traditional doctors. I spent years on prescribed antibiotics for infections that my body continued to battle with no advise on how to prevent them.
After a few years, I found a Naturopathic doctor who was able to assess and treat me. Her methods and perspectives were so unlike the traditional doctors that I became more intrigued about this type of practice.
Although I finally was feeling relief from my chronic issues, I was hungry for more knowledge to continue my healing with a holistic approach.
I then enrolled in a functional nutrition school and a year later earned a Board Certification from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners as a Certified Holistic Practitioner and Functional Nutrition Counselor.
Since then I've counseled others to find out "what's going on in there" and help them finally feel like themselves again.
What I found interesting about my story....
Although I was eating healthy since the start of my career in the fitness and health field, I still experienced body system dysfunction that affected the quality of my life.
It took a deep dive into my health history to correlate back to my current diet, blood labs and lifestyle in order to find solutions that worked for my body.
My past eating habits (stress and other lifestyle behaviors) were the initial culprits of my later adult illnesses. Who knew?!
I found it all very empowering to know how and why I got to where I was and even more empowering to receive the knowledge and education to be able to make the changes necessary to heal.
I want this feeling for everyone.
The practice of focusing on food, natural herbs and lifestyle modifications as tools to heal IS Healthcare.
My mission is to continue to spread the word on this future of preventative "medicine" and help as many people who are willing to commit to regain their quality of life and increase their longevity.
Are you next?!
